Acupuncture Study

Acupuncture has been used in many ways to improve health and now it can be targeted to help with infertility. Treatment in conjunction with fertility therapies have, in some studies, been shown to improve pregnancy rates. We refer our patients to the experts at Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture, is next door to our Carmel office and works with us to offer acupuncture, and massage therapy. Because of the close proximity, you can schedule appointments with them along with your procedures at Midwest Fertility Specialists.

In 2007, Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture, in conjunction with Midwest Fertility Specialists, conducted a study of 261 patients to determine whether acupuncture performed both before and after embryo transfer in an In Vitro Fertilization cycle affected pregnancy rates. The study was published in the journal Fertility and Sterility, and presented at the annual conference of theAmerican Society of Reproductive Medicine in October 2008. The results indicate that there is a correlation between the use of acupuncture and higher pregnancy rates.

We are proud to share these results and will continue to pursue future studies furthering the understanding of the link between acupuncture and fertility. We are confident that this is just one example of what can result when eastern and western medicine collaborate.

Counseling

Infertility is not just a physical issue. Shock, denial, anger, confusion, guilt, loneliness, grief, and depression are just a few of the emotions couples experience as they confront this challenge together. At Midwest Fertility we believe that talking through these feelings and caring for yourself as you go through treatments like IVF and IUI is a healthy choice. Your ability to deal with the ups and downs of a cycle of treatment will be strengthened and you can make informed decisions with confidence.

We use The Cabin Counseling Center in Zionsville to provide services to patients going through infertility treatment. The Cabin has several therapists on staff with special training in the physical and emotional aspects of infertility. In addition, Deidre Rausch, Ph.D., LMFT, executive director of The Cabin, sees patients in our Carmel office every other Wednesday. Let us assist you in improving communication, dealing with family and friends, processing emotions, and evaluating treatment options as you wade through the infertility journey.
